Capturing Lambertville: A Film Photo Series

When I moved to Lambertville at the beginning of 2021, I was excited to get back to photographing the world around me. Photography has always been my passion, and I love capturing moments on film. Lambertville, NJ is an amazing place to take photos. The town has a rich history, charm, and scenic beauty that make it an ideal backdrop for my photography. I believe that film photography can bring out the warmth of the town, especially during different times of the day. My favorite time to shoot is during the golden hour when the sun casts long shadows and creates warm, dreamy atmospheric vibes. However, even on overcast days, the town can provide a moody, introspective feel. I have included some of my favorite photos of Lambertville for you to enjoy.

Delaware River From The New Hope/Lambertville Bridge

This photo was taken when the smoke from the forest fires of Canada reached the New Hope, Lambertville area.

Fisherman on the Delaware

Pictured here are fisherman angling shad, something that was unthinkable up until the late 70’s because of the pollution in the Delaware. Every year since 1981 Lambertville New Jersey has hosted The Shad Festival to celebrate the return of the the spawning of shad.

Union Coffee

One of the very first places I visited before I moved to Lambertville. Some may say that it’s the heart beat of the town. Celebrities and influential figures of the area including the Governor of New Jersey have been spotted at the coffee shop. I also would later work here as a barista for over a year.

Pineapple Ballon

I captured this photo the day after Pride Fest. It was the remittence of celebrating love and equality of all walks of life in Lambertville and New Hope. Love is Love.

42 York Street

Built in 1909 by early industrialist George Massey. It was a twenty-fifth wedding anniversary gift for his beloved wife. In 1911, the home was featured as House & Garden magazine’s “Home of the Year.”

Reflections on the Canal

The D&R Canal trail is a recreational trail in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The 77-mile trail is made up of three segments that transverse three counties: a canal towpath from New Brunswick to Trenton; a canal towpath/rail trail from Trenton to Bull's Island; and a rail trail from Bull's Island to Frenchtown. It cuts right through Lambertville and is one of my favorite trails to walk on.

Peter and His Boat

Peter has lived in Lambertville for a very long time and has recently befriended me and a few of my neighbors. He taught us how to use his rowboat and now encourages us to take it out and use it to see Lambertville and New Hope from a different perspective. I want to do a photo shoot on it at some point.

House on Union

Another beautiful home on Union. If you’re ever visiting Lambertville I suggest starting at the north end and walking the length of the whole street. You’ll see huge Victorian mansions like this one pictured, scattered in with some rustic colonial ones as well.

Mt. Hope Cemetery

This cemetery was established in 1801 and runs parallel to S. Franklin Street. One of my favorite places to walk in town because of the views and for some reason I’m just intrigued by old tombstones and graves. It’s my inner goth.

Goat Hill Overlook

Part of Washington Crossing State Park this overlook is a local favorite. It’s relatively a short hike, about 1 mile from the parking area, and with views like this why wouldn’t you check it out?

Lambertville Wing Dam

The wing dam was built in the early 19th Century and reconstructed in 1968. These structures are built in rivers to control water flow and sediment deposition. They can be used for various purposes, such as stabilizing riverbanks, preventing erosion, or maintaining navigation channels.

George Street

George runs parallel to Union and Main Street. A little off the beaten path it’s a local favorite for people navigating dog walks and errands.

Graffiti Train

I’m not sure when or why this train car was left here, but it’s become a staple for tourists and locals to take photos. If you follow the train tracks from Lambertville Inn towards Stockton you’ll find it.

Cat Tower on York Street

If you’re walking towards George Street from Union and look up and to your right, you might just see this little cats face in the window. He’s always there and always watching.

New Hope/Lambertville Bridge

Originally constructed in 1904 this bridge stretches 1,053 ft. over the Delaware River and connects New Hope PA and Lambertville NJ. It’s an amazing spot to catch a sunset.
